In SYSTEM-90E, an Ethernet link can be set up in a local network by
a COM server. By using a software driver it is possible to obtain a virtual COM-interface
which works as if it were built directly into the computer.
Thus a computer can be expanded to almost any number of interfaces. Data can be transferred
transparently via the TCP/IP network protocol.
The exchange of data between the computer and SYSTEM-90E is therefore very flexible. Several
computers can access one control unit or one computer can be connected to several control units.
