The scaling factor adapts the position measurement system employed to the desired distance unit to be used when entering positions, velocities and accelerations.
 
Distances und positions
The scaling factor indicates the amount of distance covered per measuring step (increment). All necessary conversions between the entry, the stored value and the output will be performed by SYSTEM-90E automatically.
 
Velocities and accelerations
The scaling factor is a function of both velocities and accelerations. This postulates a logical relation in accordance with the laws of physics: thus, a velocity of v = 0.3 m/s and an acceleration of a = 2.0 m/s² yield an acceleration time of 150 ms (t = v/a).
