Executing several tasks simultaneously |
| All processes and activities within a SYSTEM-90E
are controlled and coordinated by the multi-tasking operating system.
The operating system works according to the multi-tasking principle which
means that the processor executes several tasks virtually simultaneously. |

3 application programs running in parallel |
Communication with the programming host |
Online communication via RS232 interfaces and the pNET protocol |
Data transport via the multi-master network |
Data transport via the fieldbus interface |
Access to the multi-port memory |
Axis management and monitoring |
System diagnosis |

| Short response times |
In order to meet the demands of fast running automation processes, the
multi-tasking operating system demonstrates very short response times.
| |
| The program runs autonomously |
| One of the most important properties of
the multi-tasking operating system is that the programs are not bound to
the motion of the axes. They can continue running while the axes carry out the prescribed
run sequence in the background. This means that there is a vast number of degrees of
freedom when performing automated operations, since there are no blockades in the running of the programs to turn up while numerical motion tasks are being performed.
